Fallout 76 on the Horizon

We don’t have much in the way of official news on the subject of Fallout 76. The majority of the information comes from the official Bethesda YouTube channel which released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Fallout game.

The trailer, which you can watch here, has the classic shot of a radio that slowly backs up showing a larger scene. Much of the content shown in the trailer looks similar to Fallout 4. This leads me to believe the have will use the same engine.

The music, as others have noted, mentions West Virginia which is where the once rumoured Vault 76 is located. It appears we’ll be heading that way for the next installment of the franchise.

Vault 76 is actually referenced in Fallout 3 in a terminal entry in the Citadel. It is mentioned that Vault 76 is a control vault and was scheduled to open only 20 years after nuclear fallout occurs. The occupants are then tasked with reclaiming the wasteland. Along those lines I think it will be fair to say that the settlement building will see a return and possible hold more of a spotlight than in Fallout 4. I enjoyed the settlement building options in Fallout 4 and I hope they make some improvements to the system if it is going to be a much larger piece of game play this time around.

The game will start in 27th October 2102. This is only 25 years after the bombs fall (2077). This could show us a very different, more devastated, and less rebuilt world than the other games. Even the mutations we see in Fallout 3 and 4 may not have had enough time to occur yet.

We may even see the Enclave at the height of its power attending to wrangle the devastated world.

There have also been leaks of this game being a multiplayer game. I’ve always looked forward to a co-op version of the Fallout series. I’m hoping they go the co-op route instead of a more traditional pvp style game. Multiplayer along the lines of the Borderlands would be a blast to play.

Hop online with a few buddies and tearing the wasteland apart sounds like some good fun. Not to mention a serious way to send many hours!

I’m looking forward to more details.
